Anchor Group, the Romanian company of Fiba Commercial Properties (Fiba CP), has received the “Best Renovation of 2016” award for the Bucuresti Mall renovation project.

With a portfolio led by eight shopping malls around the world, more than 500,000 square meters of leasable area and over 850 brands and stores, Fiba CP successfully runs shopping mall operations in Türkiye, China, Romania, and Moldova.

Beyond its shopping malls, Fiba CP owns four office buildings in Türkiye and abroad with a total of more than 105,000 square meters of leasable area, and it is also active in Romania through various residential projects in central Bucharest, managed by its company Anchor Group.

Bucuresti Mall, which began operating in 1999 as Romania’s first shopping mall, won the “Best Renovation of 2016” award at the international CIJ Awards for its renovation in May 2016.

The CIJ Awards have long been presented in commercial real estate. With a history of 9 years in Romania and 16 years in the Czech Republic, the awards ceremony is expanding into Central and Eastern European countries to keep pace with changes in local and international real estate markets.

Fiba CP CEO Yurdaer Kahraman said the company plans all its growth targets for the long term and for sustainability, and follows mall, office, and residential projects very closely in Romania and in every market where it operates. Kahraman said Fiba CP takes a multidimensional approach to growth and this year completed the renovation of its malls in Bucharest and opened them to visitors. A total of €30 million was spent on the renovation of the Bucuresti Mall and Plaza Romania shopping malls in Romania; the renovations were very well received, and both visitor numbers and turnover rose significantly. Kahraman stressed that turnover increased by at least 30–40% and that growth is continuing at the same pace. Kahraman also reported that renovation work has begun on about 20,000 square meters of Star Mall in China, which has 116,000 square meters of leasable area. “At Fiba CP, we don’t just invest and manage; we also help major Turkish brands that open stores in our shopping malls, such as Kahve Dünyası, Koton, LCW, Damat Tween, English Home, and Penti, enter markets abroad,” Kahraman said.

Anchor Group General Manager Affan Yıldırım said the company has been active in Romania for 20 years with various real estate investments. Yıldırım added that, as a Turkish company, Anchor Group had for the first time renovated a shopping mall while keeping it in operation, and that this had further strengthened the trust the market and the retail industry already placed in the company.
